This week flew by. We were able to teach Victor again! He says he feels like he is lacking faith to be baptized. This week we are going to work with him to help him realize that he already has a testimony. He really does, because when we ask him how he feels when he prays and when he reads the Book of Mormon, he always says that he feels peace and that he feels close to God. I think his problem is that he isn't recognizing these things as the Spirit, but that's why I'm here to help him progress.
We found someone this week, who I think is really good. After our opening prayer, she said that she felt peace, and I'm sure that she doesn't get a bunch of this with a young baby and two other toddlers. She's really sweet; she gave us jello and cold water. She also lives close to the church building, so it will be really easy for her to get to church. We also visited the Hernandez family the other day, and the oldest daughter, Jasmine, and her boyfriend, Edgardo, are so good. Edgardo read 4 chapters of the Book of Mormon since the last time we saw him! Usually it's hard just to get our investigators to read a little bit.
On the 15th of September, there is a big holiday in Mexico that is basically equivalent with the fourth of July. It was really nice to see the traditional mexican clothes and eat a lot of the traditional mexican food. On Friday, we had a ward activity to celebrate, and it started an hour late, but once it started it was so fun. We ate a bunch of food, and something called Chicharrón, which is pig skin, but we didn't find that out until after we ate it. Hermana Palmer exclaimed, "I just ate a football!" It made me laugh. It tasted good, so it's ok.
Because of the rain and lack of drainage the mosquitoes are multiplying like crazy, but they haven't bothered me too much compared to Hermana Palmer. Her legs are covered with at least 25 bug bites. She's a good sport about it though.
One thing that my mission is really teaching me is that I need to be strong, but in a different way than I was thinking about before. I need to be strong by opening myself to other people and loving them, even when they aren't doing anything for me or are telling me that I'm wrong or insulting me. Sometimes people act like they can't understand me, when I know they can, just to make me feel bad, but it's still my job as a representative of Jesus Christ to love these people. Christ was amazingly strong, and I think he was strong because he had an enormous love for everyone. I hope to develop this kind of love for the people around me. I know that God loves the people here; I've felt how important they are to Him. Now it's time for me to show this love to the people here.
Until next week!
