Sunday was one of the craziest baptisms I've ever had. The good thing was that Maria was oblivious to all the craziness and was just super happy. She is the mom of a convert, who just got baptized with her husband and kids, and she's had some heavy things happen in her life. She is proof of the conversion power of the Book of Mormon. When we started teaching her, she told us that she probably wasn't going to get baptized, and her daughter doubted that she was going to get baptized too. But she read the Book of Mormon and prayed with faith. I don't know how exactly she received her answer, but one day to another she went from saying "I need more time", to say "okay I'll get baptized on Sunday!" There were a bunch of things that tried to prevent the baptism, but my zone leaders talked about how when we see obstacles to the work, that we need to pray and go forth with faith trusting entirely in God that we are doing His work and that He will support us in it. Well they actually used the example from 17 miracles the movie of two little girls that prayed and went on their way skipping when they saw a dangerous animal. They told us that we need to have so much faith that we can go on skipping, doing our work and not stressing, because we know we have divine help. So when we saw these obstacles, we just prayed and went forth with faith, and we saw God's hand helping us, because we were doing His will, bringing one of His children to the path that will lead her back to Him.
I was thinking a lot about the experience we had with teaching and baptizing Maria. Aside from the power of faith and prayer, it taught me the importance of working as a team with my zone. If we didn't work as a team, we would have had a lot harder time getting things done. There are a ton of scriptures that talk about unity, and it's because the Lord unifies people. The Holy Ghost thrives on unity and avoids contention. If we are doing the Lord's work, then a natural byproduct will unity and love for those around you because these are heavenly qualities.
I love y'all!
